James Scott, was born on Feb. 21, 1834, in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. He came west to Lafayette Co., Wisconsin, in 1851, learned the trade of carpenter and joiner, and was engaged in building. He enlisted on Aug. 11, 1862, and was mustered in as a private, in Co. B, 23rd Wisconsin Infantry. He was discharged for disability, at Millikens Bend, La., on April 3, 1863, where he had been confined in the hospital.
